Orlando Pirates plans to attack the technical team of Mamelodi Sundowns in pursuit of their new coach. A source said that the name of Steve Komphela was added to the list of prospective candidates considered by Pirates.

“Komphela is truly the top of the list and might be an indication of surprise. They like him, because he has an eye for young people and they want the senior squad to have more players from their academies of development,” the person stated.

Komphela formerly trained at the major competitors of Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, where, while he had reached two cup finals, he lasted three seasons without winning a championship. Since then, though, he’s grown up and had to learn several things in Sundowns this season, where he was a ‘senior’ coach.

Using the squad, they think he may be fantastic for them. And all the players are widely known,” the person stated.

Another contender who is also rumored to be searching for Pirates is Gavin Hunt, who was recently ousted by chiefs. It is also believed that Stellenbosch United is keen in Hunt, although its pay could be a stumbling hurdle to the Cape side.

Zinnbauer finished third with the Pirates DStv for a second consecutive season while also winning the MTN8, but there are those who believe that the pirates could have done much more with major recruiting in advance of this season to fight Mamelodi Sundowns for the DStv Premiership.

Toward Pirates, Raja Casablanca were likewise well-beaten in the quarterfinals for the Caf Confederation Cup, hammered in Morocco 4-0 and in the total 5-1.
