Richards Bay FC have confirmed the appointment of Kaitano Tembo as their new head coach ahead of the next season.

Tembo replaces Vasili Manousakis who was sacked a few weeks ago along with his assistant coaches Pitso Dladla and Ronnie Gabriel.

Tembo last had a job last year at Sekhukhune United in the previous campaign. Babina Noko sacked him in November last year in the wake of poor results.

During his stint at the Limpopo side, he oversaw 12 league matches in the first round of the 2022/23 season, winning only two and drawing five times while also losing five.

“Richards Bay Football Club would like to confirm the appointment of Kaitaino Tembo as the new head coach,” said the club’s statement.

“Kaitano Tembo is a familiar face in South African football. He has been in the DStv Premiership with the likes of SuperSport United Football Club and Sekhukhune United respectively.

“We welcome the coach and wish him all the best,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Natal Rich Boyz are yet to confirm who will be assisting the Zimbabwean tactician. However, according to iDiski Times, the club might give the role to their DStv Diski Challenge coach Siboniso Gumede.

Richards Bay had initially planned to unveil the new head coach last Monday and Mandla Ncikazi was expected to take over.

But there was a late twist with the club failing to land the Orlando Pirates assistant coach. Before that, they had also failed to secure Josef Zinnbauer’s services after having had talks with him.

The German coach ended up going to the Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca. He then appointed Fadlu Davids as his assistant coach. The two coaches had worked together at Pirates and Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow.
