PlayStation pulls major exclusive offline forever, making it impossible to Platinum

A popular PlayStation 4 exclusive is being pulled offline, effectively making it impossible to get the Platinum trophy going forward.

Take a look at the new DLC for Resident Evil 4 below!

Now it’s the turn of PlayStation to pull a popular game offline. Gran Turismo Sport was released for PlayStation 4 back in 2017, and all online services for the game will be pulled as of 31 January, 2024. To be fair that’s a lot more warning than FIFA fans got.

“After the end of service date, it will no longer be possible to utilise online services such as the Community, Open Lobby, and the Sport mode, nor online features/items such as custom liveries,” a blog post confirms. “The offline portions of the game can still be played, including all previously purchased Downloadable Content.

“We would like to thank the many users of the Gran Turismo Sport online service since its first launch in 2017. From here on, we will continue to further improve the online services for the currently available title Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 4 system and PlayStation 5 console.”

Players will be able to keep all career progression and access tracks offline, but it will no longer be possible to earn trophies that require an online connection. Whether or not Sony will make a move to remove these trophies so that it’s still possible to get the Platinum for Gran Turismo Sport remains to be seen, but I wouldn’t count on it. In other words, trophy hunters should probably get a wiggle on.
