Ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender David Kannemeyer has given his verdict on the club’s new signings ahead of the 2023/24 PSL season.

Chiefs parted ways with four players namely; Erick Mathoho, Siyabonga Ngezana, Cole Alexandra and Phathutshedzo Nange to make space for the new ones.

To add, it’s not yet clear whether star Khama Billiat will be part of the squad for next season after he didn’t join the team for pre-season camp in Nelspruit. His contract with the club ran out on 30 June.

In bolstering the team, Amakhosi have already acquired the services of six new players. These are Thatayaone Ditlhokwe [SuperSport United], Ranga Chivaviro [Marumo Gallants], Edson Castillo [Monagas SC], Pule Mmodi [Golden Arrows], Given Msimango [TS Galaxy] and Mduduzi Mdantsane [Cape Town City FC].

DAVID KANNEMEYER ON KAIZER CHIEFS NEW SIGNINGS

According to the former defender, these are good signings, however their best will come out depending on the coach’s tactics and how he uses them.

“It will depend with the coach [Molefi Ntseki] how he is going to use these players. I’m sure they are good quality players that’s why they went for them in the first place,” Kannemeyer told FARPost.

“I think it will also depend with the coach’s style if play. If it suits these new signings, then they will perform well.

“For now, all we have to do is wait, see how the team will be set-up and how they will gel when the new season begins.”

KAIZER CHIEFS AIMING TO RECLAIMING THE GLORY

Ahead of the upcoming season, the Glamour Boys will be aiming to reclaim their lost glory and make the Chiefs faithful happy again.

Chiefs will be looking forward to improve from last season’s performance as they finished fifth on the log.

With the appointment of Ntseki and these six new additions, Chiefs will be hoping to end the seven-year trophy drought. The last time they won a title was back in 2014/15 season, winning the league.
