Cape Town Spurs lands signature of Sundowns defender

Cape Town Spurs have landed the signature of a Mamelodi Sundowns defender in a bid to boot their defence ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign.

CT Spurs were promoted to SA’s top-flight from the Motsepe Foundation Championship through the PSL Promotion/Relegation playoffs.

The Cape Town-based outfit makes a return to the top flight after they were relegated during the 2017/18 season.

Spurs moved swiftly to tie down one of their key players with improved contracts for the upcoming season. Amongst players who have offered new contracts is Michael Morton, Nazeer Allie, Clayton Daniels, Lubeni Haukongo, Colin Ryan, Leo Thethani, Therlo Moosa, Morne Nel, Zama Dlamini and Logan Brown.

Meanwhile, Spurs have also offered their head coach Shaun Bartlett a new contract. The Bafana Bafana legend promoted the club to the Premiership.

Spurs have announced the signing of Sundowns left-back Siyanda Msani on a season-long loan. Prior to joins Spurs, Msani spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Richards Bay.

The 21-year old wing-back made 25 appearances in the league for the Natal Rich Boys and helped the club survive relegation in their maiden season in PSL.

In addition, the Capetonians offered another Sundowns midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize a permanent contract.

Mkhize’s agent Ntobatsi Masegela informed this publication that the deal was close to being concluded. However the move is currently hanging in the balance as both parties are seemingly failing to agree on personal terms.

The 24-year old midfield maestro turned out for Chippa United last season on loan and he made 24 appearances in all competitions.

In the 2022/23 season, Spurs won 17 games in the second tier, drawn six and lost in seven occasions. They accumulated 57 and finished second on the log to participate in the playoffs.
