Kaizer Chiefs have officially unveiled the signing of Venezuela international midfielder Edson Castillo.

The 29-year-old midfielder joins from Monagas on a free transfer and penned a two-year deal with an option to extend.

Having left the South American side midway through their season, he arrived in peak physical condition for Amakhosi who are set to leave the Village for pre-season camp.

Chiefs confirmed on Friday afternoon that he will wear the number 17 shirt this season and Executive Chairman Kaizer Motaung Snr. could not hide his delight at their latest signing.

“We welcome him,” he said upon his arrival.

“We brought him here because of the talent that we saw and we hope that he can be happy here and also make history here in Africa.

“I have played with players from South America when I was Atlanta (Chiefs) in America and they were all good people, so I know exactly what we can expect from him.”

“We won’t put too much pressure on him,” the Chairman continued, “He must feel free, he must feel like he is with family. He must feel comfortable around anybody here. I wish him a very good journey with us.”

The six-time Venezuela has been backed by experts in his homeland to leave a last impact at the Soweto giants this season.
