Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele says he wants nothing but automatic to the DStv Premiership this season after the club unveiled 13 new players.

The club announced 13 signings comprising of six Under 23 players and seven over-aged players, among them goalkeeper Boalefa Pule and defender Matome Mathiane.

Bakgaga were relegated from the DStv Premiership two seasons ago and finished in ninth place in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 39 points last season.

Mphahlele says he and the technical team have done things right this time around, especially in terms of recruitment. The club boss added that he wants to forget about last season as it was just a “waste of time”.

“Definitely [our target is] automatic promotion. We don’t want any position except number one,” said Mphahlele.

“We’ve put everything, the team, the players, the technical team and the facility. They’ve got everything they must just give us number one.

“The last season, I wish I could delete it out of my mind. It was a waste of time and a waste of our energy because we signed blindly but this year we made sure that the ones we signed we all agreed. It was not a one man show, it was all of us.

“Our current coach he finished the season on a high note because he won three games in succession at the end of the league and that has made us to keep him so that he can start where he left off.

“We believe in him he is a hard worker, he works hard he is always in the office. He is a full-time coach, he doesn’t coach and go and do some other stuff so we love him.”

Despite the club’s lofty ambitions, Baroka started their 2023/24 season with a 2-1 defeat to Magesi FC on Sunday at the Global Village in Lebowakgomo.
