Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has opened up on his side’s goal-scoring form since the beginning of the 2023/24 PSL season.

Pirates have been scoring goals for fun. So far this season, the Soweto giants are one of the highest scoring teams in SA topflight with 14 goals in six matches in all competitions.

Zakhele Lepasa has been the main man giving goalkeepers and defenders nightmares in front of goal. The Bafana Bafana international has banged in eight goals.

According to Riveiro, he hopes his charges won’t drop their goal-scoring form as the season progresses.

“A goal is the promised land in football, when you are creating, it’s what we looking for. Now it seems we lucky in front of goals, hopefully we can improve that record [goal-scoring] game after game,” said Riveiro.

“When the players have that responsibility of putting the ball behind the net we become more comfortable and even more confident. When you are in dynamics because you not scoring, you creating but the ball is not going to the net, it becomes difficult because that’s an extra pressure.

“We have to support them in these moments and also when goals are not coming and when the ball is not finding the net. It’s always a question of confidence and time.”
