In 2008 American songwriter, singer and dancer Chris Brown, born Christopher Maurice Brown, hogged headlines when he debuted on Generations. Yes, the Grammy award winner was part of the star-studded cast of Generations that thrust the drama series into the most-watched soapie opera in that year.

He starred with some of Mzansi’s finest, the likes of Connie Ferguson, Rami Chuene, Menzi Ngubane and Sonia Mbele. Despite playing a cameo role, he proved that he was a jack of all trades and master of all. One of his epic episodes has flooded social media, and the world has been taken down memory lane.

The multi-platinum and award-winning superstar was featured in an episode where he inspired Ajax’s character, played by Sipho’ Psyfo’ Ngwenya after he was involved in an accident.

Ajax was involved in fatal motorbike accident days before he was set to go on a musical tour. He did the Italian job as assigned by Duma. The drama series cemented its status as the most-watched drama series in Mzansi after the Venda drama series posed a threat to its viewership.

However, despite being one of the most-watched drama series in Mzansi Generations has since lost its most-watched drama series to Uzalo. The KwaMashu set drama series, which centred on crime, has since become Mzansi’s most-watched drama series in Mzansi.

It once hogged the headlines when it hit the 10 million viewership mark. This can be undoubtedly credited to its star-studded cast of years, from Leleti Khumalo to Masoja Msiza, who stars as Nkunzi.

On the other hand, Generations rebranded to Generations: The Legacy, which gave a blow in their viewership. At some point, they lost their entire cast after some salary woes.

More than 14-lead actors were shown the exit door after staging a protest against the showrunners and the directors of the drama series. Despite all that, their storyline and continuous salary woes have led to the mass exodus of seasoned actors who have a huge following, like Vusi Kunene and Vuyo Dabula.
