Ranga Situation Explained Amid Chiefs & Pirates Talk

Ranga Chivaviro’s transfer saga has been one of the most talked-about and bizarre stories of the off-season thus far but it appears to be coming to an end.

Chivaviro joined Marumo Gallants at the start of last season after impressing then-head coach Romain Folz on trial and was signed as a back-up option for Sede Dion.

It was a lifeline for the player who has just been released by Venda Football Academy and his career looking to be on the rocks.

While he initially didn’t get much game-time, things turned around mid-season and he went on to score 17 goals in all competitions, which included seven in the CAF Confederation Cup in their run towards the semi-final of the competition.

Yanga SC, Al Akhdar, Sekhukhune United and Richards Bay all came forth with offers and he actually penned a pre-contract with the latter just before his scintillating goal-scoring form kicked in.

Confusion Over Ownership

With more offers then flowing in as the season was drawing to a close, it had been revealed that Gallants had an option to extend his contract, which was exercised, and rendering the pre-contract with the Rich Boyz null and void, and in the process, Kaizer Chiefs were moving in on the player.

But Gallants chairman Abram Sello had already agreed a transfer fee with Orlando Pirates in a double deal including Katlego Otladisa, which was said to be R9.5 million for both players, iDiski Times sources close to the relegated club confirmed.

Pressure was then intensified for Chivaviro to join the Buccaneers but the player refused to make the switch to Mayfair, citing the number of strikers already on the books and favouring a move to a club where he would be able to be a first-choice striker.

Late interest from the Saudi Yelo League then arrived but with the battle between Gallants and Richards Bay over the player put a spanner in the works and any talks on ice.

However, the player has always been clear that Yanga or Chiefs would be his preferred move at this stage of his career.

Attempts to reach out to the player and his representatives have been futile as they stated there’s nothing to say at present about his future.
