Mamelodi Sundowns loanee shares key to fruitful loan spell

Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Luvuyo Phewa has spoken on what has helped him thrive in his recent loan spells.

The attacking midfielder spent the last six months of the just-ended season on loan at Cape Town Spurs.

He played an integral role in the promotion of the club through the PSL Promotion Playoffs.

Phewa signed for the Brazilians in 2020 from the then-second-tier side Real Kings. At the time he was at the age of 20 and the Tshwane giants beat Orlando Pirates to his signature.

Before he went to Cape Town Spurs, Phewa also had loan spells with Chippa United and the University of Technology. While his stay at Chippa wasn’t as good as he would have hoped, he seemed to be enjoying his stints with Tuks and Spurs.

The 23-year-old says the key to having a successful loan spell is to free your heart when you’re sent out and “accept the situation”.

He believes this has helped him adapt to new environments.

“As a player, you just have to free your heart,” Phewa told FARPost.

“You have to accept every situation. You just have to be flexible, you just have to focus and love your job.

“That’s why it was easy for me to adapt to any team I played for.

“If I’m in that team I just have to put my focus in it and adapt their way of playing and everything.

“So, I think here at Spurs I have adapted very well in the [past] six months. Because I came here in the second [round].

“So, I think outside and inside the field I was very disciplined. I pushed myself and that’s why my

performances were growing.

“And credit to the players, incredible coaches that gave us the support that we needed.”

Phewa along with other Sundowns loanees are expected to head back to Chloorkop before the start of the upcoming season.

OTHER SUNDOWNS LOANEES EXPECTED TO RETURN

Others are Devine Lunga, Lyle Lakay, Siyanda Msani, Grant Magerman, Sammy Seabi, Etiosa Ighodaro Siphesihle Mkhize, Jody February, Keletso Makgalwa and Promise Mkhuma.
