Former South African referee Victor Gomes has been appointed as Vice-President of the CAF Referees’ Committee.
Gomes, 40, hung up his whistle earlier in the year after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar but is widely considered one of the continent’s greatest-ever officials.

“The integrity, independence and credibility of referees, match commissioners and VAR operators is crucial for the respect and growth of African football and we are confident that the newly appointed CAF Referees’ Committee members will contribute towards the growth and global competitiveness of football in Africa,” CAF president Dr. Patrice Motsepe said.
