‘Form doesn’t win you games’: Kekana

Published

Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana says “form doesn’t win you games”, but something has to give in Saturday’s MTN8 semi-final first leg between Kaizer Chiefs and Masandawana.

Amakhosi will welcome Bafana Ba Style at FNB Stadium at the weekend, with the kick-off set for 15:00.

Chiefs have struggled to beat Sundowns in their last three league meetings, however, Kekana reckons that a cup game is a different ball game.

Sundowns come into this game highly motivated, as they remain the only team yet to lose a game across all competitions so far.

Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys started the season not so good under the tutelage of Molefi Ntseki, who at some point had to be escorted by the police as fans threw missiles at him.

‘FORM DOESN’T GUARANTEE YOU A WIN’: Hlompho Kekana

Kekana believes that Sundowns’ current form won’t matter on Saturday,  as Chiefs will try to make use of their home-ground advantage.

“Well, in a cup game, we must be realistic. It’s a cup game where form doesn’t really guarantee you to win a cup game,” Kekana told FARPost

“You just make sure you score goals and maybe try to defend against the opposition.

“So, this is a very tricky fixture for both two teams. They know the first leg result will determine how one is going to plan for the second leg.”

He went on to reveal that Chiefs will try by all means to make things difficult for Sundowns, as they will want to walk away with the bragging rights.

“I believe Kaizer Chiefs are not going to let Mamelodi Sundowns take the play at FNB Stadium. They will try by all means to make it difficult for Sundowns,” he added.

“On the other hand, it’s going to be a pride [bragging rights] match where each of these teams wouldn’t want to lose the game.”
