Why Pitso Mosimane didn’t join Chiefs.

Former Orlando Pirates coach Augusto Palacios has revealed why Soweto giant Kaizer Chiefs failed to sign South African football coach Pitso Mosimane.

Augusto Palacios thinks Pitso Mosimane’s high price may be the cause of Kaizer Chiefs’ inability to acquire him for Naturena.

After firing Molefi Ntseki in October, Amakhosi have been looking for a new coach. A few weeks later, Mosimane became a free agent after quitting his position with the United Arab Emirates.

It could be hard for the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach to decline the Chiefs offer, he acknowledged in December. Jingles’ supposed move to the Chiefs never materialized, as reports surfaced in January suggesting he might be going back to Saudi Arabia.

Mosimane is not cheap; he waits for the right opportunity, according to former Orlando Pirates coach Augusto Palacois.

“Pitso needs to wait for an offer. The offer can come from anywhere because of his existence. He has made a name for himself, but he has to be patient because I don’t think teams in South Africa can afford him,” Palacios told Soccer Laduma last year.

“What you should know is that he had made sacrifices to be where he is. He is like Jose Mourinho, but his wife is his agent and she knows what she is doing. He has to wait for the right opportunity as he doesn’t come cheap,” said Palacois.

Mosimane is currently regarded as one of the best coaches in Africa, having won leagues in Saudi Arabia and Egypt since leaving Mamelodi Sundowns.

“He needs to be paid. He has a great value. He is not cheap. He needs to be paid the right amount. Pitso and Rhulani [Mokwena] have made a lot of sacrifices to achieve what they have achieved and they deserve what they are getting paid,” said the former Pirates coach.
