In his last interview, Sebeng shared his excitement for the role, noting the unique cultural backdrop of the Vaal region. ‘What piqued my interest about 016 FM is that it is a story that is about the Vaal. I feel like there haven’t been many stories that have shed a light on this particular part of the country,’ Sebeng said.

To prepare for the role of DJ Whiskey, Sebeng dove deep into the pop culture of the Vaal. He spent time with locals, especially those involved in movements like ama-italiana and izikhothane.

‘I immersed myself in understanding the movement to have a better understanding of the character,’ he explained. Sebeng also watched numerous videos and skits online, seeking out content created by Vaal residents to authentically portray his character.

016 FM is not just a show about DJs; it’s a gripping tale of two polar opposites – DJ Whiskey and DJ Tsietsi, played by Joseph Sedibo – who must join forces to save their beloved radio station.

The series is packed with intense drama and high-stakes action, including the challenge of ousting a dangerous syndicate that has infiltrated the station. The show captures the heart and soul of the Vaal community, promising to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
