Skeem Saam’s Amanda Manku Opens Up About Her Father ‘Killing’ Her Mom And Grandma

Amanda Manku, known for her roles as a Skeem Saam actress and SuperSport presenter, recently opened up about a deeply personal and harrowing experience.

In a recent Q&A session on Instagram, she disclosed that her father, William Manku, allegedly ordered a hit on her mother, Gladys Manku, and grandmother, Lettie Maphuthuma, leading to their brutal murders in May 2021.

When asked about her emotional well-being, Amanda responded with a mixture of strength and vulnerability. “This question, I think it requires one to kind of dig deep in. I am okay. I think there is a lot going on in my personal life right now that if I was not strong, it could get me down, but I don’t have that option.

“Unfortunately, I don’t have the option to be weak. I don’t have the privilege of being weak. I have to be strong,” she said.

She also acknowledged the public nature of her family’s tragedy but emphasized her determination to move forward. “There are some hectic things that I think a lot of people know about that have been in the limelight. Particularly is losing my parents and the aftermath of that but other than that we move,” Amanda added.

William Manku, a police captain, was arrested in January this year along with his girlfriend Nonhlanhla Ngubo and David Khoza. While Ngubo was later released, Manku was denied bail and Khoza abandoned his.

Both men have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, two counts of murder, defeating the ends of justice, and robbery with aggravated circumstances.

During a court appearance in June, Manku confessed to orchestrating the murders in an affidavit, citing his desire to be released on bail to tender his resignation as a police officer.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, Amanda’s grandmother and mother were shot dead by unknown suspects while fetching water at a local tap. Amanda’s uncle was also injured in the attack but survived.

Investigators revealed that Manku had hired hitmen to kill his mother-in-law and had even driven with them to show them where she lived.

When the hitmen reported back, they informed Manku that they had accidentally killed two people instead of one, including his wife, who they believed might expose them.

This chilling case continues to unfold, leaving Amanda Manku and her family to grapple with the unimaginable betrayal and loss. Despite the severity of her circumstances, Amanda’s resilience and fortitude remain evident as she navigates this difficult chapter in her life.
