Tso Vilakazi’s son opens up on everyday advice from his father

Following his move to Richards Bay FC, Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi’s son Thato Mohlamme has opened up on pieces of advice he gets from his father every day.

Mohlamme recently joined the Natal Rich Boyz and will ply his trade in the DStv Premiership for the first time this upcoming season.

The attacking midfielder got the taste of top-flight football this past weekend in the KZN Premier’s Cup. He featured in both matches that were played by Richards Bay on Sunday.

He came on as a substitute in the semifinal against Golden Arrows. And he started the final against AmaZulu FC in the afternoon.

Mohlamme admitted he’s still facing the challenge to adjust to the higher level as he’s been playing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship for quite a while.

Speaking to the journalists on Sunday, Mohlamme said before he switched to Richards Bay, he got an educational talk from his father Vilakazi. He says the Orlando Pirates all-time topscorer advised him to pay no heed to what people say but rather focus on his game.

TSO VILAKAZI’S SON ON EVERYDAY ADVICE FROM HIS FATHER

“He gives me a lot of advices because we speak everyday,” he said.

“Even what I do [on the field], he’s the one who teaches me. He tells me this is what you must do when you come across this and that.

“He told me not to put myself under pressure but play my normal football. We sat and spoke about everything before I came here.

“He told me I mustn’t worry what people say or do but I must play the game.”

‘WE MUSTN’T BE COMPARED’

When asked how he would deal with the comparison that’s bound to happen between him and the Buccaneers legend, he continued:

“I understand [how big he was], but we mustn’t be compared.”

“Yes, I want to emulate him and aim higher than what he did. And I believe that it’s possible.”

Mohlame will be looking to make his DStv Premiership debut when Bay square off with SuperSport United on 5 August.
