In this article, we look at some of the best South African PSL strikers never to have played in Europe.

PSL strikers never to play outside SA

Daniel “Mambush” Mudau

Mambush’s name alone put fear in many defenders. Mudau was one of the most feared strikers in the PSL in the late 90s and early 2000s. The former Bafana Bafana striker joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 1992 from Ratanang Maholosiane and went on to score nearly 200 goals for the Brazilians in the PSL era.

To this day, he remains the most lethal striker in the country who has never played overseas. Mudau is currently serving as Sundowns’ ambassador responsible for scouting and youth identification.

Mabhuti Khenyeza

Many fans will remember Khenyeza for scoring the fastest Soweto Derby goal back in 2007 but the striker had a successful footballing career that spanned for nearly 18 years. The former striker made a name for himself at Golden Arrows, scoring 43 goals in 114 games for the KZN outfit. Khenyeza then moved to Kaizer Chiefs but his time at Chiefs was cut short despite being a fan favourite but he will go on to become one of the PSL top players/strikers at Ajax, helping them to win the Telkom Knockout trophy.

Katlego Mashego

Mahoota had a very good left foot and was also an accurate set-piece taker. At his peak, Mashego played for SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates where he won four PSL titles between 2007 and 2011. He is among the best strikers to have played in the DStv Premiership scoring over 80 goals in his career.

Surprise Moriri

It’s not a surprise to have Moriri on the list. The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Silver Stars man played mostly as a second striker in the PSL even though he could switch to an attacking midfielder. Moriri won everything win Sundowns during his 12 years stay at the club but his biggest moment came against Barcelona in 2007 when he scored within one minute and 30 seconds to make it 1–0. Although Down lost that game 2-1, Masandawana to this date, still remembers the striker’s goal.
