A family’s nightmare: a horrific car accident claimed the life of a brother while his brother is still fighting for his life in hospital.

A cold front is expected to make landfall on Friday, resulting in a drop in temperatures. Disruptive snow is also expected in the Eastern Cape.

Meanwhile, wind is expected to gust up to 80km/h, while waves as high as 8m are expected in the Northern Cape and Western Cape.

Former apartheid activist and minister in the presidency Essop Pahad has passed away at the age of 84. Pahad reportedly passed away in his sleep.

Lastly, at least 17 people died due to a gas leak in the Angelo informal settlement in Boksburg, Gauteng, on Wednesday, 5 July. Emergency services first reported that 24 people had died, which was revised to 16, and according to reports, another individual died in hospital early on Thursday.

Family’s Nightmare: One brother killed, another critical after HORRIFIC accident

A HORRIFIC car accident has claimed the life of 22-year-old Nicky Pretorius, while his younger brother, Michael (21), is still fighting for his life in hospital.

Both are former students of Hoërskool Driehoek in Vanderbijlpark.

Their father, also Nicky, told Maroela Media his eldest son died on Thursday in a hospital in Sasolburg in the Free State after he and Michael were involved in an accident on the R57 the night before.

Brrrr! Disruptive snow expected in THESE parts of Eastern Cape

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 6 warning for disruptive snow for parts of the Eastern Cape.

The snow is expected to make landfall on Sunday, 9 July and Monday, 10 July.

Weather warning: 80km/h winds and 8m waves in two provinces

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for wind and waves in the Northern Cape and Western Cape.

The wind warning is valid from Friday, 7 July until Saturday, 8 July while the waves warning is also valid from Friday until Sunday, 9 July.

The weather service said the passing of the cold front over the Western Cape and Northern Cape is expected to be associated with strong to near gale force north-westerly winds (50 – 70km/h gusting up to 80km/h).

RIP: Essop Pahad passes away at age 84

Former apartheid activist and minister in the presidency Essop Pahad has passed away at the age of 84. Pahad reportedly passed away in his sleep.

Pahad served as a minister from 1999 till he tendered his resignation in 2008 following the ousting of former President Thabo Mbeki. 

Born in the then Transvaal Province (now North West),  Essop is the elder brother of former deputy minister Aziz Pahad.

‘Very sad morning’: Ramaphosa urges investigators to uncover what caused fatal gas leak

At least 17 people died due to a gas leak in the Angelo informal settlement in Boksburg, Gauteng, on Wednesday, 5 July. Emergency services first reported that 24 people had died, this total was revised to 16, and according to reports another individual died in hospital early on Thursday.

Residents allegedly inhaled toxic nitrate oxide from a leaking gas cylinder. The gas was reportedly used for an illegal mining operation in the area. Suspected illegal miners are among the dead. Five women and three children also died.
