Tinkler Unhappy With Controversial Pirates Goal

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler has become the latest coach asking for the Video Assistant Referee to be introduced in the Premier Soccer League.

Following a perfect start of the season, winning two out of two, City lost their third consecutive league match on Tuesday night, going down 2-0 at Orlando Stadium against the Buccaneers.

Pirates scored early via a superb strike from Zakhele Lepasa, but City came better into the game in the second half until the second goal by Patrick Maswanganyi sealed the tie – but there were question marks whether the ball had crossed the line.

Tinkler felt the goal shouldn’t have been given as he feels the ball didn’t cross the line and the former Bafana Bafana defender has once again mentioned that VAR is much needed in the league.

“Obviously we would like to bring technology into our game because it does make a difference,” Tinkle told the media.

“Like I said to you, that goal shouldn’t be allowed. The ascendancy that time of the game was with us. We end up losing the ascendancy that time because we 2-0 down so the mindset changes.

“At that stage of the game the players start believing we can get back to the game because they see that we have control of the match. So those mistakes become extremely costly mistakes that referees and linesman are making.

“So, if we can bring in technology to help, we should be doing that.”
