Swallows fc star stays put as Sekhukhune withdraw offer

Sekhukhune United are believed to have withdrawn an offer to sign a Swallows FC star as they prepare for the 2023/24 PSL season.

Babina Noko have been on a signing spree in the off-season as they look to build a competitive team for the upcoming campaign.

Sekhukhune had an impressive finish to the 2022/23 campaign after making it to the Nedbank Cup which they lost to Orlando Pirates.

The Limpopo-based side finished in the top eight on the league table and qualifed for the CAF Confederation Cup by virtue of making it to the Nedbank Cup final.

Sekhukhune have already signed Jamie Webber, Kgomotso Mosadi, Renaldo Leaner and Washington Arubi.

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune made enquires about Mamelodi Sundowns’ midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize but the deal could not materialise after talks broke down.

Mkhize is now finalising his permanent move to Cape Town Spurs who recently got promoted from Motsepe Foundation Championship.

SEKHUKHUNE UNITED TURN DOWN OFFER TO SIGN SWALLOWS STAR

This publication understands that Sekhukhune turned down an offer to sign Swallows FC midfielder Tlakusani Mthethwa.

The central midfielder was going to reunite with head coach Brandon Truter after the pair worked together at Swallows.

In the previous campaign, Mthethwa made 28 appearances in the league for the Birds and contributed one assist.

“Sekhukhune United showed interest in Tlakusani Mthethwa, it looked like the deal is close to being concluded,” a source said.

“I mean the club was very serious about signing Mthethwa and you know that he worked with Brandon Truter before.

In addition, the informant said “What puts Sekhukhune off about signing him was his wages demands. And also, the club couldn’t meet what he was asking for.”

It remains to be seen whether Sekhukhune will reignite their interest in Mthethwa or look elsewhere for there other options.

Furthermore, Swallows have appointment Steve Komphela as their head coach on a one-year deal.
