President Cyril Ramaphosa will be attending the inauguration of Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, on Monday, 04 September. Mnangagwa, who has served as President of Zimbabwe since November 2017, was elected for a second term in office at the end of August.

Opposition Rejects Election Results

While preparations are underway for Mnangagwa’s inauguration ceremony, the opposition, led by Nelson Chamisa, has rejected the results of the elections. Chamisa’s party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), is setting up a petition online calling for a new political settlement. The CCC is calling for nationwide protests and a re-run of the elections.
