It’s a return to domestic action for the hosts, who close off what’s been a busy opening month of the campaign with what promises to be another exciting night of football in Soweto.

The fixture takes place exactly two weeks after their most recent league outing, a goalless stalemate away to Chippa United.

That result took the Buccaneers’ points tally to four in the Premiership, following defeat in their season opener and a comfortable 4-2 win against Royal AM in their only home league fixture played so far.

Across competitions, Orlando Pirates have been especially clinical at Orlando Stadium, winning all three of their home games and netting 12 goals while conceding just twice.

The last of these victories came last Friday, where they scored three unanswered goals against Comorian champions Djabal Club to advance in the CAF Champions League.

They now take on a City outfit whose campaign has taken an unwanted turn, following a bright start.

The men from the Mother City have taken to the field four times in the league this season, winning their first two fixtures before suffering two consecutive defeats.

Having also played a cup game, their current losing streak is now sitting at three games, and they will be desperate to overturn their fortunes at Orlando Stadium.

Team news

The Buccaneers have made a few strides on the injury front in recent weeks, with several key players now back at training after nursing minor injuries early in the season.

Players approaching full fitness include striker Kermit Erasmus, who missed the early part of the campaign through injury and could soon feature in the match day squad after resuming full training.

Following their string of unsuccessful outings, City could be tempted to ring changes on Tuesday night.

Among those who could be set for a spot in the starting lineup is experienced defender Taariq Fielies, who has only featured off the bench this season.

Key players

Patrick Maswanganyi (Orlando Pirates): Brought over during the offseason, Maswanganyi has quickly adapted to life as a Buccaneer to become a key component on attack. The 25-year-old netted his first goal in Bucs colours on Friday while also providing his third assist across, and will be eager to stamp his authority once more in another crucial home fixture.

Taahir Goedeman (Cape Town City): The versatile midfielder has stood out for City early on in the season, commanding a starting place in all their games thus far. Goedeman has mainly operated in the centre of the park, occasionally shifting forward and out wide and has made crucial goal contributions, underlining his value to the team’s cause.

Head-to-head

Goals from Terrence Dzvukamanja and Monnapule Saleng gave Orlando Pirates a 2-1 win on Cape Town City’s last visit to Orlando Stadium, avenging their earlier defeat in the reverse fixture.

That was the latest instalment of what has been a series of thrilling encounters between the two sides, who have provided 35 goals in 14 league meetings with the Soweto Giants slightly edging the scoring stakes with 18 goals scored.

In terms of results, the rivalry between the Buccaneers and the Citizens has been a tight one with eight stalemates witnessed, while victories have been shared evenly at three apiece.
