Orlando Pirates make major transfer moves

Soweto giants Orlando Pirates have made major transfer moves ahead on the 2023/24 PSL season which kicks off in a few weeks.

Pirates who are currently in pre-season camp in Rustenburg broke the news on Friday 7 July posting on their website.

Five players saw their contracts extended and one player had his contract terminated. Two loanees return to their last season clubs respectively, two are still finalising deals and two are in camp being assessed by the coaches.

CONTRACT EXTENSIONS

The Sea Robbers revealed that they have extended the contract of Vincent Pule amongst other players.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club can announce that Vincent Pule has signed a new contract extension with the Club, penning a deal that will see the 31-year-old remain at the club until 2025 [2026 should the club exercise its option],” Orlando Pirates posted on their website.

“Pule, who has made 135 appearances for the Buccaneers, netting 31 goals and 11 assists, is currently in Rustenburg with the rest of the squad as they prepare for the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

“His 2022/23 season was plagued by injury, limiting him to only 19 appearances, netting two goals.”

The Ghost further revealed that it has decided to extend the contracts of the other four stars. These are namely Richard Ofori till 2024 plus one year, Thabang Monare [2024], Siyabonga Mpontshane [2024] and Ben Motshwari [2024].

PLAYERS ON LOAN

Azola Tshobeni and Boitumelo Radiopane will return to JDR Stars and Cape Town Spurs on season-long loans respectively.

Last season loanees the duo of Bongani Sam [Maritzburg United] and Tshegofatso Mabasa [Sekhukhune United] may be on their way to Swallows FC on loan. Discussions to finalise the deals are still ongoing.

Loan returnees Azola Matrose [Chippa United] and Thabiso Sesane [All Stars FC] joined the squad for the pre-season camp where they are being assessed by coach Jose Riveiro and his technical team.

TERMINATED CONTRACT

Collins Makgaka was the only player who left the club permanently. The 27-year-old struggled for game time last season, he only played four league games completing 42 minutes.
