Kaizer Chiefs winger Pule Mmodi has been called up by Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to replace the injured Themba Zwane.

The Mamelodi Sundowns captain picked up a severe cut on his eye in his side’s MTN8 semi-final first leg after accidentally being hit by Yusuf Maart’s Boot.

As a consequence, Mmodi has been called up by Broos as replacement, the Belgian tactician confirmed on Monday.

The news come just a few days after Broos had stated that “no Kaizer Chiefs deserves to be with the national team”.

Meanwhile, central midfielder Sphephelo Sithole has also been called up as a replacement for Luke Le Roux.

In addition, Mlungisi Mbunjana was called up to replace Teboho Mokoena after the latter’s withdrawal.

“We have seven injuries. [Kuliso] Mudau was injured but he played last Saturday, we didn’t know that, nobody informed us about that,” he stated.

“We have Hlongwane, who is injured, we have Zwane, Maseko, Le Roux, Morena and now at last Mokoena, so that’s a lot of injuries.

“I’m not happy about that because these are preparation games for AFCON and World Cup qualifiers.

“I don’t blame someone by saying that but it means I have to change seven players compared to Morocco three months ago.

“I hoped to have maybe a few changes from the selection that played against Morocco but okay, but now I can call other players to get game-time. It’s the goal for the friendly games to give game-time to every player who is here, the new ones will have game-time.

“To replace Mokoena we have called Mbunjana from Galaxy TS, Le Roux is [replaced] by Sithole and Pule Mmodi [for Zwane].”
