The National Prosecuting Authority has confirmed that seven people who appeared in court on Wednesday have been linked to the Krugersdorp gang rape.

They’ve been charged with multiple counts of rape, robbery with aggravated circumstances and being in the country illegally.

Eight women were gang-raped about two weeks ago while filming a music video at a disused mine in Krugersdorp on Johannesburg’s West Rand.

NPA spokesperson Phindile Mjonondwane said another seven suspects, also linked to the gang rape, are expected to appear in court on Thursday.

She added that more arrests are possible.

“We are waiting for them to appear first at the Randfontein magistrate’s court where they face charges related to the contradiction of the immigration act.

“Once they have appeared there they will be brought to Krugersdorp court where they will be added to these seven accused facing similar charges of rape, sexual assault and robbery with aggravating circumstances.”
