Marumo Gallants start new era: Relocate, hire new coach?

Marumo Gallants is looking to the future with a move to a new city and the appointment of a new coach ahead of the 2023/24 season.

FARPost has gathered that Marumo Gallants are making several changes, following their relegation last season.

The club began their preparations for the 2023/24 PSL season at the beginning of July. They are now training in Pretoria West, Gauteng under a new mentor.

Their previous training base in Polokwane has also been taken by newly promoted DStv Premiership side Polokwane City. The other training facilities in Limpopo’s capital City have also been offered to Black Leopards and Magesi FC.

MARUMO GALLANTS RELOCATE TO PRETORIA?

FARPost has gathered that they have moved their training base from Polokwane to Pretoria with Sammy Troughton as their new coach.

This publication also understands that the club had also not made any effort to secure either the Old or New Peter Mokaba Stadium for next season. This could also be a serious indication that the club might have permanently moved to Gauteng.

Marumo used four venues last season, the Peter Mokaba, Mangaung, Royal Bafokeng and Dobsonville Stadiums. They have been strongly linked with a move to Mangaung but nothing has been confirmed yet.

The club also failed in its bid to purchase the status of Richards Bay due to the asking price. It is alleged that the KwaZulu-Natal side wanted R 60 million and the Motsepe Foundation Championship status as part of the deal.

As it has been reported by this publication, the club has parted ways with a lot of players and most of the technical team members. This includes consultant Dylan Kerr. Our sources have also not been able to spot well-travelled administrator Doctor Mapale, Masseur, Tebogo Amos Dhlomo and Biokinetics Mugeri Khodani at the training sessions.

Marumo Gallants have secured a new home with Sammy Troughton as head coach.

SAMMY THOUGHTON TAKES OVER THE COACHING REINS

The future of current Bafana Bafana COSAFA Cup assistant coach Raymond Mdaka is also uncertain at the club. Mdaka is believed to be on the wanted list of various clubs.

Sources within the Marumo camp have confirmed to this publication that well-travelled coach Troughton has taken over at the club. Troughton parted ways with the University of Pretoria at the end of last season.

He has been in charge of the club’s training sessions since Wednesday, 5 July.
