Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila has praised right-back Zuko Mdunyelwa after he has been included in the preliminary Bafana Bafana squad.
Mdunyelwa has been named in Hugo Broos’ 36-member preliminary squad ahead of their friendlies against Namibia and DR Congo in September.
He is the only Chippa United player included, and it remains to be seen whether he will make the final squad, which will be announced on Wednesday.
Mammila was left smiling from ear to ear by the news and mentioned that this is a motivation to him and other Chippa players.
“To be honest Zuko is one of the best right-backs in the country. He is good in one on ones, he is not a player that you can beat easily,” Mammila told the media.
“If you look at his size you may think you will go easy but I’m telling he is one of the top full-backs in the country. I’m happy that the coach of the national team can recognise him.
“It’s a motivation for me, it’s motivation for the entire team and I think they gear up because of that call up for Zuko, because I’ve got many – [Goodman] Mosele wants come in, Ronaldo [Marman] is knocking, he has to come in.”
Chippa return to action on Wednesday, when they will host Royal AM at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
