Fortune Reacts To Benni’s Man Utd Gig

Quinton Fortune, Benni McCarthy’s former Bafana Bafana teammate and a Manchester United legend, has reacted to McCarthy’s appointment as a first-team coach at the Red Devils.

The former Cape Town City and AmaZulu head coach’s appointment to Erik Ten Hag’s technical team took South Africa by surprise when it was confirmed on Saturday.

But while the news was unexpected, Fortune told iDiski Times in the latest edition of the paper, that he is delighted for McCarthy and the club, and feels it is going to be a good match.

Fortune, who is still a Man Utd ambassador and also a pundit on Sky Sports, was one of the first people to welcome McCarthy to Old Trafford and the two shared a moment live on TV on Sunday, when United played a friendly.

“This is absolutely amazing news for Benni, personally for Benni first of all because over the years, he’s told me he’s a big Manchester United fan,” Fortune, who like McCarthy also holds a UEFA Pro Licence, shared with iDiski Times.

“And for the club, the club are getting someone that’s got so much experience, a Champions League winner. For the coaching staff, it’s going to be amazing, for the players especially because you got someone who can walk into a change room, that can speak Portuguese, he can speak Spanish, he can speak Nederlandse (Dutch) and of course English, so it’s going to benefit the team.

“And of course, I think Benni’s coming in to work with the strikers, so they are so fortunate to have someone of that calibre as a player and now as a coach.”
