CT Spurs boss reveals stance on Shaun Bartlett

Cape Town Spurs boss Alexi Efstathiou has revealed his stance on the club’s head coach, Shaun Bartlett, after the poor start to the DStv Premiership.

On their return to SA’s topflight, CT Spurs are in dire straits as they have lost all their four opening games, including two at home against Sekhukhune United and Chippa United, respectively.

CT Spurs, who returned to the Premiership after winning the PSL Promotional/Relegation playoffs last season, are currently rooted at the bottom of the log standings with no points.

However, CEO Efstathiou told FARPost that CT Spurs are a work in progress and maintained full belief in Bartlett.

Efstathiou, who believes CT Spurs will return their season around, is adamant that it’s too soon to press the panic button.

“We’re in full support of Shaun [Barlett]. We’ve got to give him all the tools required to turn this thing around,” Efstathiou told FARPost.

“It is not always the right decision to change the coach. I think that is a bit of a knee-jerk reaction.

“We want to try and figure out together with the coach what needs to be done and how we can help him. So that we can get through this patch, and I’m sure turning the corner won’t be too far away.

The CT Spurs CEO added: “It is a difficult period at the moment. We have to identify our shortcomings and work on those. So we basically feel work needs to be done on the training field. Although we have not got a result, each performance has got better.

“We shouldn’t panic. We need to stay calm and figure out the best way forward.”

CT Spurs will travel to Soweto on their next league assignment. They will face Moroka Swallows in search of their maiden three points of the season at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday evening at 19:30.
