Chiefs Legend Passes Away – iDiski Times

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the sad passing of Frank ‘Jingles’ Pereira at the age of 77.

Pereira, who was born in Madeira but moved to South Africa at an early age, is one of the legends of the seventies and eighties and began his professional career with Vaal United in 1963.

He later joined Powerlines, Highlands Park, Jewish Guild and the old Cape Town City, before joining Chiefs in 1979.

His move to Cape Town City from Jewish Guild made him the most expensive player in South Africa at the time.

‘Jingles’ was part of the Amakhosi team that won four trophies in 1981. In four years as a Chiefs player, he helped the club win 10 trophies, including a league title in 1979.

“Kaizer Chiefs are saddened to hear of the passing of former Amakhosi player, Frank ‘Jingles’ Pereira, on Sunday, 3 September, at the age of 77,” the club stated.

“Jingles was a Chiefs player from 1979-1983 and contributed immensely to the Club’s success in those years.

“Chiefs would like to take this moment to remember Jingles as a person and sporting icon who represented the Club in an exemplary manner and, on behalf of Chairman, Dr. Kaizer Motaung, the Club pass on our heartfelt condolences to his family.”

We, ati Diski Times, would like to express our condolences to Pereira’s family, friends and the football fraternity as a whole.
