Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has praised his side’s attitude with 10 men against Orlando Pirates and questioned why Sibongiseni Mthethwa was overlooked for the Man of the Match award.

Stellies found themselves down to 10 men for a second successive match after Thabiso Moloisane got sent off in the first half.

However, the home side scored the opener via Ismael Toure just before the break, but Pirates came back to win the game thanks to goals by Zakhele Lepasa and deon Hotto.

With his side playing with 10 men for over 50 minutes for a second time in four days, Barker was impressed with the incredible work rate of Mthethwa and said he should’ve received the Man of the Match award.

“I heard that Sibongiseni Mthethwa was named Man of the Match until they scored a goal,” he told journalists.

“I don’t know why it changes because I thought he was for me the best penalty on the park.

“For him to play the way he has and still has that amount of energy and desire to chase and press and try to get something for the team, it makes a coach proud when players put in an effort like he does and like everybody else did.”
