Royal AM are believed to be looking into overturning the ban that was imposed by FIFA by settling the money owed to striker Samir Nurkovic.

Club boss Shauwn Mkhize was initially pondering to pay Nurkovic R12 million and then backtracked again after the Serbian striker won a case via FIFA, where Royal AM was found guilty for not being honest with the player, letting him go without the settlement.

The player then took the matter to the world governing football body, as he felt he was within his rights and the club was not fair in their approach.

The former Kaizer Chiefs striker won the matter and also via the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland, the last resort for MaMkhize to see the matter overturned in her favour.

During the club’s unveiling of their sponsorship with Msunduzi Municipality, Mkhize said Nurkovic was scamming her because he arrived carrying an injury but he told them he was fine.

MaMkhize added Nurkovic was not honest with her and the player was looking for a “retirement policy”.

But settling the issue is now back on the menu and the club, looking register new players as they are currently banned from two transfer windows, has until the 22 September PSL deadline to register new players, provided that they pay Nurkovic and show proof to FIFA.

An iDiski Times source has blamed former club CEO Sinky Mnisi for the debacle, saying it was Mnisi who signed the player and took Nurkovic’s words that he was not injured when he was.

The club source added they have since acknowledged their mistake and they should have done medicals before they signed him.

“We might do something in the next coming days,” said the source.

“The club is pondering the situation and they are in discussions to end the matter. The club was wrong to sign a player that was injured but it was then CEO Mnisi who was told by the player he was not injured when he was.

“We have learnt our lesson from this now because we didn’t do medicals when we came.”

After Royal AM recorded their first league win of the season, beating TS Galaxy 1-0 at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday afternoon, coach John Maduka was confident that MaMkhize would sort the matter out.

“I know my management will try its best to make sure that [the matter is settled],” said Maduka to iDiski Times.

“We feel that [we can end this saga] after trying, and I know my chairlady [will do that].”
