Agent Confirm Davids’ Maritzburg Exit, Opens Up On Raja Interest

Maritzburg United have parted ways with head coach Fadlu Davids and the entire technical team, his agent Rasthoem Simons confirmed, while he also opened up on rumours linking the former Orlando Pirates co-head coach with Raja Club Athletic.

The Team of Choice missed out on saving their status after finishing the PSL Promotional Play-offs in second place behind Cape Town Spurs, who returned to the top flight after five years in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

A goalless draw at a packed Harry Gwala stadium last week Wednesday was enough for Spurs, while Maritzburg failed to get the win they needed.

On Sunday, Maritzburg United Chairman Farook Kadodia released a furious statement, saying he “felt betrayed by a few players” in the squad. He followed the statement with releasing the entire technical team, as first reported by SABC Sport and confirmed to iDiski Times by Davids’ agent.

“As you are aware I’m on Hajj Pilgrimage. Yes I can confirm that we mutually agreed to terminate the contract for Coach Fadlu and his staff with the club,” Rasthoem Simons of 5sSports told this publication.

Davids joined Maritzburg in November, replacing John Muduka and finding the club rooted at the bottom of the log after 13 games. He did manage to move Maritzburg into 15th spot after 30 games, missing out on survival on goal difference. But the club’s fate was sealed in the play-offs, ending their 15-year-old spell in the top flight.

Meanwhile, Davids’ agent also addressed talk that his client could once again link up with Josef Zinnbauer, who took the head-coach job at Raja Club Athletic recently.

“Regarding Raja, coach Zinnbauer had made contact before the last play off matches and this was relayed to Maritzburg United at the time,” Simons added.

“The focus was always to do everything to save the club. At this stage there is nothing more I can say.

“Darian Wilken is in Europe undertaking his UEFA B license. Next steps will be discussed at an appropriate time.”
