Arthur Zwane has reacted to completing the double over Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby, revealing what he told his players at half-time and also explained his late subs.

Chiefs collected their fifth successive Derby win after beating the Buccaneers 1-0 thanks to a late own goal by Olisa Ndah.

The three points take the Amakhosi level on 31 points on the DStv Premiership log, but Zwane wasn’t entirely happy with his side’s play.

“It was important for us to get three points today,” he told SuperSport TV after the match.

“Though this is one game that I feel we gave them too much respect in the first 15 minutes and we looked like whenever we’re applying a little bit of pressure on them, especially waiting for Timm and Ndlondlo receiving the ball in the middle, because we set those pressing traps in the middle and I think we could’ve done better.

“We back into the game but the problem now was we were losing every second ball. We gained possession, we didn’t take care of the ball and then we started playing in patches. We’re always difficult at some point when it comes to transition because we knew once they move with the ball forward we’ll get those spaces.

“We created about three to four chances, if I’m not mistaken.”

Zwane also explained what he told his players to change at half-time and gave some insight into his second-half substitutions after Innocent Maela was sent off.

“At half-time we told them we have to put them under pressure, we have to force them to make mistakes and we got that one where Saile was going straight to goal and Maema was sent off,” he added.

“Now we had to reshuffle the again how we’re going and unfortunately S’fiso was not giving us that extra man forward because there was no need to sit with four at the back. So had to now bring in Happy, bring in Sekgota so that he can eliminate them in 1v1s and we put them more under pressure.

“We did but I think we should’ve done better, I’m still not happy how we were moving off the ball. We could’ve done better so we can exploit the space and create space for other players.

“But I’lll take this one because the boys worked very hard between them. I think forward we could’ve done better, but Christian was very forceful towards the end of the game.”
