Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has become the latest coach that was asked about his opinion on the Premier Soccer League Footballer of the Season, but remained coy on singling out one player.
With just four league games left to be played for most local teams, the debate around which players should be named Footballer of the Season has been ongoing for a few weeks.
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena entered the discussion earlier in the week, saying he feels there shouldn’t be much of a debate with Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena standout names for him.
Other players in the running are Sundowns’ striker Peter Shalulile, who won the award in the last two season’s, as well as Monnapule Saleng, for his superb campaign with Orlando Pirates.
Earlier in the week, Zwane was asked to give his input on the debut, but the Amakhosi coach insisted he needed to see the final games of the season before picking his favourite.
“There is many players that did well and it’s difficult to single out one,” he said.
“So until the end of the season… I think that will give us a clear sign as to who is the best Player of the Season.”
Five out of the most recent seven winners of the award have been Sundowns players, namely: Khama Billiat in 2015/16, Percy Tau in 2017/18, Themba Zwane in 2019/20 and Shalulile in 2020/21 and 2021/22.
The only other winners were Thembinkosi Lorch in 2018/19 and Lebogang Manyama in 2016/17.
