Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane says he would welcome the addition to VAR in South African football after his side were wrongfully denied a goal against Orlando Pirates.
The Amakhosi lost their Carling Black Label Cup semi-final against Pirates 6-5 on penalties after the game had remained goalless after 90 minutes.
However, Chiefs did have the ball in the back of the Pirates net in the second half when Ashley Du Preez beat Siyabonga Mpontshane, but he was called back by the referee for offside, with tv footage proving it was the wrong decision.

“First half we were not in the game, second half I knew that it was going to come and I think we scored a goal that was taken by the linesman or the referee, I don’t know,” Zwane said after the match.
“It’s part of the game. I don’t want to complain about the referees. They also make mistakes, it’s part of the game, just like us.
“As you know penalties [are a lottery].”
Zwane was then asked about the use of the Video Assistant Referee in South Africa, with the system said to be tested behind the scenes of the Carling Black Label Cup, according to SABC.
“I think we need that [VAR], though for me at some point it delayed the progress of the game and sometimes it kills the momentum, because we’re going to have to wait,” he explained.
“We’ll try by all means to take the game to another level, if we allow it to take place.
“That will be a plus for South African football as a whole.”
