Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has made a surprising statement about former goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter.
Zwane, who replaced Stuart Baxter at the helm of the Glamour Boys addressed comments from his predecessor, who had claimed in an interview that he left due to “certain agendas” going on during his spell.
‘10111’ responded to the comments by saying that Baxter “must own up” and not “try to shift blame”, which lead to questions about whether there was already friction between Baxter and his then-assistants Zwane and Dillan Sheppard ahead of the CAF Champions League final.
“I don’t think that could be the reason. We obviously went into the final, hoping that we’ll win the CAF Champions League,” he told reporters.

“It doesn’t matter who was the coach on the day, we were all part of it. When we lost we lost as a team, if we were to win it we were going to win it as a club.
“It wasn’t about Arthur Zwane or Stuart Baxter or coach ‘Sheppie’. If he can elaborate when he says we ‘backstabbed him’, how? Because we thought we worked with someone that we can learn from, someone that will be our mentor.
“That’s I’m breaking it down for you, to explain that was the situation at the time. Those were the players that were available.”
When confronted with the notion that Baxter had indicated Zwane and Sheppard “backstabbed” him during his spell at Naturena, the Chiefs coach responded with a rather blunt comment about the former goalkeeper coach.
“His son backstabbed him, not us,” Zwane stated with the notion that Lee was at the club and part of the technical team before his father’s second stint. “Because he was a problem as well.”
