Zanele Sifuba opens criminal case for revenge porn

ANC Free State Speaker, Zanele Sifuba has opened a criminal case for revenge porn, against a man who shared a sex tape of her on social media.

The widely circulated video was leaked on Wednesday, 09 November and Zanele spent the day trending on social media with her nude pictures and provocative video going viral.

According to reports the man in question is allegedly a former lover of the Speaker who was blackmailing her for a large sum of money.

When Zanele refused to pay the money, the man, believed to be of Nigerian nationality leaked her video.

Spokesperson for Zanele Sifuba confirmed that a criminal case for revenge porn has been open as extortion is a criminal offence.

Apart from that, South Africa has made some strides in protecting victims of cybercrimes and Zanele may consider her options in that regard.

She can lay crimen injuria charges, sue for damages or open a protection order.

Initial reports suggested that Zanele was being blackmailed for R300 000, but her spokesperson said the amount that was being demanded was R150 000.

Zanele’s spokesperson said the “faceless thug” intended to ruin the Speaker’s reputation and her integrity as the Speaker of the Free State Legislature.
