Yanga Chief pays tribute to AKA and Costa Titch: ‘Your legacy will live on’
Yanga Chief mourns the loss of AKA and Costa Titch. AKA was tragically shot dead on February 10th, and Costa Titch collapsed and died while performing on March 11th. Yanga Chief shared his thoughts on social media, remembering the two stars’ impact on the entertainment industry and their legacy.
“Waking up to this reality daily is heavy to bear. So many conversations I wish had gone differently. The arrogance to think ‘we still have time’. Will we ever get over ourselves sisaphila? I’m beyond grateful for what we created, Forbes. Not just songs, not just memories, but we actually changed people’s lives.
“I’m not sure which direction I’m headed, but every day I ask myself what would you do in this situation and without fail I just do it. I will not let your legacy go to waste bro. I’m fighting every day for the dream we shared. You believed so much in me, the least I can do is to believe in myself more.”
Speaking to news reporters after AKA’s death, Yanga Chief said the star was why he decided to stop shying away from fame and join the cast of MTV’s Love & Hip Hop SA.
“There’s a part of myself that has always been fighting fame. The people were around, superstars such as AKA, always said I should go harder.”
Yanga Chief, whose real name is Yanga Ntshakaza, collaborated with AKA on his final album Mass Country. The song ‘Ease’ also features Blxckie. Yanga believes that AKA would be proud of his career’s direction.
“AKA and I hadn’t been working on music for a long time. We leant on our friendship in the last times. I’m blessed to have been able to make a song after a long time with him, but I’m not going to promise unheard verses.
“I’m sure there are a couple, but for me, I’m happy with that conclusion in our music story. I know we are proud of each other. I think he would want me to go on my own run now and stand as myself, and that’s what I’m going to do, with him at the back of my mind at all times.”
