Will Chiefs Be Patient with Zwane? Bobby Responds…

Kaizer Chiefs Team Manager Bobby Motaung has suggested they will be patient with their ‘legend’ Arthur Zwane as he embarks in his role as the club’s new head coach.

Motaung and the Chiefs hierarchy have sung to the same tune as Zwane since he replaced Stuart Baxter as an interim head coach with Dillon Sheppard about restoring the culture and identity of the Soweto giants.

Amakhosi management is on an eight-year drought without silverware but parted ways with Ernst Middendorp after losing the league title in the final 30 minutes of the 2019/20 campaign, Gavin Hunt who played an integral role in their historic run to the CAF Champions League final in the 2020/21 season and two-time league winner Stuart Baxter – who seemed on course to steer them to a top-three finish.

All three have notably been sacked for their style of play that’s not been synonymous with the Amakhosi brand and the famous quote of doing things ‘the Chiefs way’ and speaking to the media, Motaung suggested that ‘10111’, whose appointment is notably to bring the deeprooted history back into the club will receive the backing and patience, even if silverware isn’t immediately attained – should their entertaining brand of football return to the Glamour Boys.

“Look like I said, different coaches, different reasons why they left, the journey for these guys [Sheppard and Zwane] they have been part of the process of the changes that have been made, they have seen the pain, they’ve been through the pain,” Motaung responded to iDiski Times at FNB Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

“They know the culture of the club, they know what the targets are so continuing with them says that we must support and empower them to try and phase off that phase of bringing in another new coach, bringing in another new coach who’s going to come in with a different mentality.

“So they’ve been part of it. Logically, let’s keep our guys who are qualified now as coaches, let’s empower them and support them and let them continue. So coaches that have left in the past, [for] various reasons, you know we can’t go back and say this one tactically didn’t do this, this one… we’ve not done that at Chiefs.

“We thank them for the work that they’ve contributed in the past and now we’re looking to the future, new coaches, fresh ideas, [a] young coach, our own, our own legend and our own coach that went to courses, that worked with coaches practically in the club, been there, seen it done it – so it’s his opportunity now.”

Chiefs are set to make further technical team changes in the coming days as well as announce the incoming and outgoing players ahead of the 2022/23 season.
