What Is The New Carling Knockout Cup?

Published

on

After Premier Soccer League chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza announced the creation of the Carling Knockout Cup, here is what the new competition is all about.

The Carling Knockout Cup will replace the Telkom Knockout Cup from 2023/24 season, with the 16 DStv Premiership teams set to face each other in the new knockout competition.

The winning team of the Carling Knockout Cup will then play the so-called “Carling XI” – a team made up of six senior players plus five players from the Diski sides of the 15 teams that didn’t win the competition in a once-off match on 16 December 2023.

There will once again be an element of fans voting, which is yet to be fully clarified. Dr. Khoza also confirmed there will be a “substantial amount of prize money” without revealing the actual figures.

The new partnership with Carling Black Label is a three-year contract with the potential to be extended by another three years.

Both Dr. Irvin Khoza and Carling Black Label Brand Director Arne Rust didn’t want to engage further on what the new tournament will mean to the existing Carling Black Label Cup between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, simply responding with “watch this space”.
