1991 | In a press conference, former army major Mr. Nico Basson said that the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) had received covert support and weaponry from the South African Defence Force (SADF) in an effort to weaken the African National Congress (ANC). These weapons included AK-47 assault rifles.
