The Public Servants Association and the National Education, Health, and Allied Workers’ Union will be continuing their strike at the South African Revenue Service (SARS). The unions and SARS management were unable to come to an agreement in the latest round of negotiations.
The strike threatens to affect the tax collection season which began recently. The PSA and Nehawu began the strike in May demanding increases of around 12%. SARS says the cost of workers’ salaries is almost R8bn.
