Orlando Pirates star midfielder Miguel Timm says he regretted missing the Soweto Derby but it spurned him on even more in the MTN8 final.
Timm was suspended after receiving a fourth yellow card against Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the MTN8 semi-final two weeks ago.
Then Goodman Mosele had to take over his spot in the match, but he didn’t last long as he suffered an injury in the early stages of the game.
Pirates, who also lost captain Innocent Maela in the early stages of the Derby, then went on to lose the match through audacious strike by former academy graduate – Yusuf Maart from long range, after Khama Billiat shrugged off Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo off the ball, Timm’s partner in crime.
However, having served the ban, Timm was restored alongside Ndlondlo and Ben Motshwari in the middle three.
Tiim then took control of everything, breaking the play from AmaZulu and also initiating the play as Pirates won their record fourth MTN8 trophy at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
“I’ll be honest, it s*cks missing the Derby,” said Timm.

“You can’t compare watching it at the stadium and being on the field.”
While Timm missed Derby, it kicked him in the backside to perform well in the MTN8 final.
“So I got a big oomph last week,” added Timm.
“I put good effort, good preparations, knowing that if I get an opportunity, I’ll try and grab it with both hands which look like I’ve done it today (on Saturday).”
Afterwards, when Timm was handed his small trophy for being named man of the match by MTN rep, he was in tears.
“It was a lot of emotions,” Timm explained.
“I can’t even explain and that’s why I came here (to the mix zone to talk to the media). It feels like I’m dreaming, but it’s really happening.
“To win with a team like this, I can’t compare with anything in my career so far.”
Timm’s quality has seen him play alongside Didier Drogba, one of the finest strikers on the Africa continent, at Phoenix Rising in the United States of America. He has also been called up by Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos in the provisional squad for the upcoming two friendly matches.
