Thabang Monare was not short of options when Orlando Pirates announced they were letting him go recently. The former Bidvest Wits star was part of 10 players released by the club.

As the midfielder nears a shock return to the team, FARPost has gathered that he came close to penning a deal with two PSL sides.

The former Jomo Cosmos star was on the verge of signing for AmaZulu FC, and the deal fell off after Usuthu signed George Maluleke. He joined on a free transfer after being released by Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Monare is an outstanding player, they really wanted to sign him, and the coach likes him very much, but they are looking at other logistics, and since they have signed Maluleke, they feel they don’t need extra midfielders in the team; hence they put Monare’s deal on hold,” a source told FARPost

On Thursday, all was set for Monare to put pen to paper at Sekhukhune, but the South African international reportedly never showed up.

“He had agreed on terms with Sekhukhune, and a contract was prepared for him, but he didn’t show up,” added the source.

Monare is now believed to be reconciled with the Buccaneers to sign a new deal and reunite with his teammates as the team is being taken for their paces in preparation for the new season.

“He trained with Pirates on Friday, and it looks like he will stay on at the club.”

Bucs’ new head coach José Riveiro has started preparing the team for the 2022/23 season.

The Spaniard joined the Soweto giants as the new man in charge of the technical team on a three-year deal, as confirmed by the club last weekend. The tactician has retained Mandla Ncikazi as one of his assistants, along with the Spanish coach he has brought along, Sergio Almenara.
