FIFA have announced the final world rankings of 2022, with two African sides inside the top 20 and South Africa remaining outside the top 10 in Africa.
Morocco were among the biggest climbers worldwide after their historic run to the World Cup semi-finals.
The Atlas Lions now sit in 11th place, the highest spot by an African team since Egypt was in ninth in 2010.
Morocco also overtook Senegal as the highest-ranked African team, with the Lions of Tarenga falling one spot from 18th into 19th despite also reaching the knockout stages of the World Cup.
Tunisia remained unchanged in 30th position after failing it to make it out of their group at the World Cup despite their 1-0 win over France in their final group match.
Cameroon made a big jump of 10 spots into 33rd worldwide and fourth in Africa following their World Cup performances that saw them draw with Serbia and defeat Brazil.
Nigeria fell three spots into 35, while Algeria (40) fell behind Egypt (39). Mali (45), Ivory Coast (47) and Burkina Faso (50) complete Africa’s top 10.
Ghana’s Black Stars moved up three spots from 61 into 58, while South Africa remained unchanged in 67th position.
As a consequence, Hugo Broos’ men end the year 2022 in 12th position on the African continent. That’s one higher among the CAF nations and worldwide than in the end of 2021.
