Tearful Radiopane Sends Message To Spurs & Pirates

Orlando Pirates loanee Boitumelo Radiopane couldn’t back hold his tears after fans chanted his name during the celebrations of Cape Town Spurs’ DStv Premiership promotion.

Radiopane was loaned out by Pirates to Spurs at the beginning of the season but couldn’t start the campaign with the club due to an injury.

When he came back he hit the ground running, scoring seven goals. However, the 21-year-old picked up another injury in the first game of the Premier Soccer League play-offs when Spurs beat Casric Stars 1-0 in Mpumalanga and he was ruled out for the entire play-offs.

After Spurs won promotion on Wednesday night, the team arrived back in Cape Town on Thursday and celebrations continued at their home base at Ikamva.

Injured ‘Radioman’ walked into a packed Ikamva on his crunches and received a warm welcome, which left him in tears.

“It was something that I never expected, unbelievable feeling. I’m happy to be here and I’m happy to have contributed towards this wonderful team, I’m really thankful,” he told iDiski Times.

“Thank you to Spurs and thank you to Orlando Pirates for giving me this opportunity.

“When I came here, everything, we were talking about was promotion [from the beginning], now we got it. For me it’s a dream come true.”

It is not clear yet whether the 2021/22 DStv Diski Challenge top goalscorer will return to Spurs for another season, as his initial one-year loan deal comes to an end.

However, the player is now focussed on his recovery and is expected to be sidelined for another three months due to his injury.
