Swallows President Lesufi Makes Huge Annoucement

Swallows President Panyaza Lesufi has confirmed his resignation from the club, with immediate effect.

Lesufi played an instrumental role in the Birds’ return to the South African top-flight when he secured the status of then-second-tier side Maccabi and invested into the club towards their promotion under then-coach Brandon Truter.

Their first season in the top-flight proved to be a successful campaign as they finished sixth and after a major drive for new talent in the off-season thereafter the wheels seemingly fell off.

A failed sponsorship agreement with Telkom, something the club was seemingly banking on, saw the club suffer financial issues with several players and members of staff reportedly not receiving their wage wages during stages of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Dube Birds, did, however, managed to retain their top-flight status under Dylan Kerr via the promotion/relegation play-off system on the final day after a 1-0 win over AmaTuks

Lesufi, who was the Gauteng MEC for Education since May 2014, was appointed as the Gauteng chairperson of the African National Congress and has subsequently ended his association with the Soweto-based football club.
