SuperSport United hosted their 2022/23 awards ceremony at the Randpark Golf Club on Monday evening.

After securing a third-place finish and returning to CAF inter-club football in Gavin Hunt’s first season back at the club, there were some reasons to celebrate for the Tshwane outfit.

Despite their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nedbank Cup finalists Sekhukhune United in the DStv Premiership finale, Hunt, who has been nominated for the PSL Coach of the Season, managed to steer his side into third, behind Orlando Pirates and champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

There were several standout players, Thapelo Maseko, the PSL Young Player of the Year nominee, attracting interest from abroad and Sundowns, Bradley Grobler, their top scorer with 10 league goals, as well as Ricardo Goss, the PSL Goalkeeper of the Season nominee.

Defensive resilience was one of the key components to their improved season, and it was no surprise to see defenders amongst the winners at the glittering event, with Thulani Hlatshwayo being SSU Player of the Season, while Grant Margeman won the Player’s Player of the Year award.
